Family Therapist charged in Sexual Assault

Palo Alto police arrested local family and marriage therapist Samuel J. Silva-Roland Tuesday on suspicion he sexually battered one of his female patients in April.

According to the Palo Alto Police Department, Silva-Roland, 47, is charged with one count of sexual battery stemming from the alleged incident, which reportedly took place in late April during a counseling session at his 935 Middlefield Road office.

Silva-Roland is a state licensed marriage and family therapist who specializes in working with adoptive families, couples and cross-cultural couples, the department reported. In addition to working in Palo Alto, Silva-Roland also advertises offices in San Francisco and Burlingame.

Silva-Roland is expected to appear in Santa Clara County Superior Court on July 18.
