Santa Barbara County psychologist re-arrested, accused of sexual assault

As reported by KSBY 6 TV. If only there were some publicly funded system or institution where criminals could be isolated for the sake of public safety.

A Santa Barbara County clinical psychologist has been re-arrested after another alleged victim comes forward.

Dr. Fernando Cordero was taken into custody earlier today at his home in Orcutt.

Investigators believe Cordero may have been getting ready to flee the country.

Before tonight's arrest, three other women had accused him of sexual assault.

One former patient says the doctor coerced her into a three year sexual relationship by threatening to have her put back in jail.

"We found a fourth victim that alleged she was coerced into a physical relationship with Dr. Cordero spanning several years. Based on that and some credible information we received, he was planning on fleeing the country because of these allegations," said Santa Barbara Sheriff's Department Sgt. Erik Raney.

Cordero's bail has been set at $250,000.
