A letter from the daughter of a convicted Psychiatrist

Recently we received a letter from the daughter of Clifford Ayling, a psychiatrist accused of and found guilty of many counts of indecent assault in Britain. It was one of the most notorious cases in recent years.

Clifford Ayling was jailed for four years in December 2000 on 13 counts of indecent assault between 1991 and 1998. (See the BBC story) Also, a group of 31 women abused by Ayling settled their legal action against Kent and Medway Strategic Health Authority which employed him. All of this caused a major scandal for the medical establishment in Britiain, and an official government investigation was conducted. (See the official UK Governmental Inquiry report here)

We present this letter in part, since she presents a link to a detailed website she has worked on in trying to clear the name of her father.

This letter highlights the difficulty of investigating these cases.

It also highlights the enormous difficulty in recognizing the possibility of evil actions on the part of a parent or other family member. Especially actions of this magnitude.

We remain convinced that Clifford Ayling is in fact guilty of the crimes of which he was accused and convicted.

Dear Sickmind,

I have just discovered your blog site and noticed that it contains quite a few descriptions of the allegations made against Clifford Ayling.

You might be interested to know that there exists a website with lots of information about both Clifford Ayling and the people who made allegations about him.

If you go to the response to paragraph 2.21 of the Ayling report and look at comment 17, you will see that the website has started looking in detail into the cases of claimants. Case 4 is that of the woman who abused drugs that is mentioned on your blog site.

I have started making a long list of all the errors of fact and mistaken impressions contained in the Ayling Report – there are at least 42 major ones and the list gets longer and longer as the case is researched.

Anyway, if you’re interested, just click onto the above website and have a look for yourself – if you’re really interested in the truth.

Yours sincerely,

Joan Ayling
Daughter of Clifford Ayling.
