Federal and county investigators are looking into the death of a second professional wrestler who was the patient of Dr. Phil Astin, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.Our curiosity in this has to do with the over-prescription of psychiatric (and other) drugs by those who are not psychiatrists. Just like Anna Nicole Smith, the amount of heavy drugs prescribed to celebrities is killing them.
Astin is the doctor who admits prescribing steroids to wrestler Chris Benoit who authorities said killed his wife and son and then committed suicide.
Investigators said Friday that wrestler Michael Durham, also know as Johnny Grunge, was a patient of Astin's when he died in 2006.
Capt. Mike Pruitt of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office drug task force told the AJC that Dr. Astin is suspected of overprescribing drugs to Durham.
Documenting Psychiatrists Behaving Badly
Of all professions, psychiatrists seem to get into the most trouble. I have been collecting stories about psychiatric screwups for a while. Sadly, it has been disgustingly easy to do. We post stories with links to the original sources. We couldn't make this stuff up if we wanted to. My Name is Sickmind Fraud.
